What is a demand charge?
A demand charge is the part of a commercial electricity bill set by the highest average demand, in kilowatts, recorded in a short interval during the billing period. BC Hydro averages demand over an interval of not more than 30 minutes and bills Large General Service customers $13.83 per kW of billing demand per month (Rate Schedule 1600, rates effective April 1, 2026). FortisBC bills Commercial Service customers $15.06 per kW of billing demand above 40 kW per month (Rate Schedule 21, rates effective January 1, 2026).
What does the Free Demand Assessment include?
The NeoTechX Free Demand Assessment reviews a site's interval data and electricity bills, identifies what drives its peak demand, and delivers a clear report with options. It has no software fee and no obligation. If on-site metering is needed, the customer pays only for the hardware, installed by a licensed electrical contractor.
Does NeoTechX need a battery or new equipment to lower demand?
No. NeoShift, the NeoTechX demand optimization service, coordinates HVAC, heating and mechanical loads a facility already has, so that they stop peaking together. Building systems stay in control of safety and comfort, and nothing is automated without the customer's approval.
How is NeoShift paid for?
After the assessment, NeoShift can run on a shared-savings basis: a share of the measured savings, indicatively 30% to 40%, agreed per site against a baseline defined with the customer. If there are no savings, there is no shared-savings fee.
Can NeoTechX secure old RTUs without replacing them?
Yes. NeoCore Edge Runtime is designed to sit in front of existing RTUs and controllers, in the same panel, and carry their data over TLS-secured DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104 based on IEC 62351, so the devices already in service can stay in place.
Where is data hosted?
Services NeoTechX hosts are hosted exclusively in Canadian data centres, supporting BC public bodies' obligations under FOIPPA. NeoCore runs on the customer's premises and sends data only to destinations the customer configures.
